Have you ever had one of THOSE weeks?

Well, the past week has definitely been one of THOSE weeks for us. Whatever could go wrong DID. Even the things we expected would be a little tough were FAR more challenging than we ever expected. The story is long and grueling with more twists than a tornado . . . so I will spare you all the gory details.

Let’s just suffice it to say it included such golden gems as these:

  • A vengeful bout of the flu for Bruce (and two days later for me)
  • Fulfilling a promise to help a relative that had to move out of their apartment by Saturday and arriving there Friday morning to find they had barely started packing.
  • Discovering that they had also lost the key card to the storage unit we were needed to move their stuff to because their new apartment wasn’t ready yet.
  • Finding out that the storage facility was closed for the Thanksgiving weekend and they could not get a new key card until Monday
  • Scrambling to find a garage to stash their stuff in until then.
  • Bruce having to go into work on Saturday (still sick) to finish preparing for their counseling office’s annual state audit due to begin on Monday
  • A very heart-breaking and hurtful phone call from someone we love

. . . and MUCH, MUCH more!

We are worn-down and exhausted. More than once over the past few days we have felt tempted to echo David’s words from Psalms 22:

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?”

But our hearts and our past experiences remind us that God has NOT forsaken us. These may be difficult days, but we can stand confidently on David’s earlier words in Psalm 20:

Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

We must never forget that, if we have turned our life over to Him, WE are God’s anointed. He has not turned away from us. He is with us through our struggles.

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.” — Psalm 31:24
