Take pride in how far you have come and have faith in in how far you can go. —Michael Josephson
It’s so easy to get discouraged. When we stumble or struggle in our attempts to make a change or reach a goal, we often become blind to all the progress we have made. We feel that if we haven’t fully succeeded, we have failed.
But life is not a pass or fail class. Things are not that black and white. Change is a process. Sometimes it’s three steps forward and two steps back, but we need to remember that even that is progress—we’re still one step further along than when we started.
Overcoming an addiction is a process. Learning to trust again is a process. Changing a habit is a process. Even life is a process. Processes take time. Perseverance is the secret to success, not perfection. Baby steps DO count!
So resist the urge to focus on your failures. Be proud of how far you’ve come. Many haven’t even had the courage to begin the journey—but you have! Even if the progress is small. It IS progress and if you don’t give up, more progress will follow. Let God and others encourage and support you in your journey. With the unbeatable combination of your perseverance and their help you can (and will) get there!
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” —Psalm 37:23
