Do You Need to Recalibrate your HOPE meter?

IT’S EASY TO LOSE HOPE . . .

  • We get impatient when success doesn’t happen as quickly as we think it should . . . and we lose hope.
  • We take our eyes off the goal . . . and we lose hope.
  • We start listening to the negative voices in our heads instead of accepting the encouragement those around us offer . . . and we lose hope.

BUT WE CAN FIND IT AGAIN . . .
The dictionary says hope is “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.”

  • As we get to know our Heavenly Father better—the God of hope— it becomes easier to trust that things will turn out for the best . . . and it restores our hope.
  • We hear the stories of those who have struggled and succeeded . . . and it restores our hope.
  • We begin to acknowledge and feel grateful for even the tiniest successes in our life . . . and it restores our hope.

It’s all about staying focused. When we lose our focus we quickly begin to lose faith in the idea that our future can and will be better. When we regain that focus those feelings will once again soar.

As author, Hal Lindsey once said: “Man can live about forty days without food, three days without water, about eight minutes without air, but only for a second without hope.” I’m not sure how accurate his numbers are, but I do know that we can’t survive very long without hope. If yours is flagging, reach out and reach up . . . if you look for it, you’ll find it.
