When the world says, “Give up,” Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.” ~Author Unknown
How many times have you absolutely nailed something the very first time you tried it? Take a minute to think about it.
How many times did you fall hard on your little behind when you were learning to walk? How many run-ins did you have with a tree or the neighbor’s fence in the process of learning to ride a bike? How many hours did you have to practice with squeaks and awful sounding mistakes before you were able to play that song perfectly? Nearly everything we have mastered, we have learned through trial and error, diligence and repetition.
Why do we expect things to be any different now? Whether we’re seeking freedom from addiction, trying to lose weight or working through a difficult issue, it’s all the same. We won’t always get it right. We will likely stumble from time to time. We may even fail completely.
The important thing is to pick yourself up, shake off the shame, and keep trying . . . one more time. After all, if you had given up the first time you fell down and refused to try again, you still wouldn’t be able to walk or ride a bike. You had to keep getting up and trying again . . . over and over and over. But eventually you got it!
It’s the same way with whatever you’re struggling with today. If you persevere, and don’t give up, there will be a day when trying that “one more time” will be the last time necessary. You will have finally taken hold of that thing you have struggled toward for so long. What a day of rejoicing that will be!
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” — Philippians 3:12
