Which is the Most Popular Porn Day?

Statistics surprisingly show that Sunday, yes SUNDAY, is the most popular day of the week for viewing porn. So, why would the traditional “church” day, be the most popular day for online pornography? I’m not sure I have all the answers on this one, but it’s worth contemplating.

If we could understand why people are more vulnerable on this day than any other day of the week, we might be able to see and avoid the triggers before they catch us off guard.

Five specific things come to my mind:

FREE-TIME
Most of us have busy, busy weeks. We try to cram more into a day than is humanly possible. Sunday can be a rare respite from the regular treadmill life has become. The day is often less scheduled, less structured. We have time to read the newspaper over a leisurely cup of coffee. We have time for a decadent Sunday afternoon nap. And, we, evidently, have time for porn.

ENTITLEMENT
After that long, busy week and a Saturday checking off the tasks on the honey-do list, it’s easy to feel like we DESERVE something just for us. If the rest of the family is out of the house seeking their own rejuvenation, or sound asleep at the end of the day, it’s easy for our mind to tell us that we are entitled to take a peek.

BOREDOM
For others Sunday is a lonely day. Divorce or distance has taken the family away. Everyone else is busy with their own families. It’s easy to feel isolated and disconnected. Pornography offers a pseudo-connection with other people that takes the ache away.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE
Satan seems to speak louder on Sundays. It’s traditionally “the Lord’s Day,” so, of course, he would like to see it confused and destroyed. I remember, as a Mom, that it was often the worst day of the week. The kids seemed to dawdle a little more on Sundays, fight a little more on Sundays, mess things up a little more on Sundays. I was often at wit’s end by the the close of the day. Whatever benefit I got from the morning church service was long gone. The enemy is more than happy to use whatever and whoever he can to distract us from focusing on God.

TOMORROW IS MONDAY
If it’s Sunday, we’re just a hop, skip and a jump from Monday morning and another crazy, busy week. Anticipation or dread can certainly send us looking for a diversion.

If Sunday is a particularly difficult day for you, take a few minutes to look at what makes it that way. Once you figure that out you’ll be more able to effectively deal with the REAL issue that you’ve been trying to avoid by running to porn.

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” — Exodus 20:8

What, if anything, has the potential of making you more vulnerable on Sundays? Have you found anything that helps you from succumbing to the cravings?
