Reading Reprise

“Books won’t heal you, but they can encourage you in your recovery journey.”
Sometimes we get the idea that if we can just read enough and understand enough, our struggle will disappear. Well, the truth is, NO book can heal us. Only God can effectively minister to our wounds and the fears and pain they cause, but the right materials can be a source of understanding, direction, and encouragement. We’ve presented this reading list before . . . but in case you missed it, here’s a short list of the books that, in our opinion, you will find the most helpful:

Breaking Free—Understanding Sexual Addiction and the Healing Power of Jesus, by Russell Willingham – This is one of our favorites! Whether you are struggling with sexual addiction or know of someone who is, this helpful book will give you a solid understanding and the practical tools necessary to begin moving toward a whole new level of freedom.

Out of the Shadows; Contrary to Love; Don’t Call it Love: and In the Shadows of the Net, by Patrick Carnes, Ph.D – Dr. Carnes was one of the first to study and write about sexual addiction. Although not from a specifically Christian perspective, his books are classics that hold a vast amount of truth within their covers.

No Stones:Women Redeemed From Sexual Shame, by Marnie Ferree – A recovering addict herself, Marnie has written one of the few books that speak hope to the many women who struggle with sexual addiction.

The Pornography Trap, by Ralph Earle & Mark Laaser – This book specifically addresses the sexual sin epidemic that is sweeping through our churches and infecting both church leaders and their congregations.

Faithful & True: Sexual Integrity in a Fallen World, by Mark Laaser, Ph.D. – Dr. Laaser offers a comprehensive overview of sexual addiction, its roots, its consequences and its treatment.

“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” Psalms 25:5
